Ultralight Training Limited - Training

Training for a British National Private Pilot’s Licence NPPL(M)

All training is in accordance with the regulations set out by the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in conjunction with the British Microlight Aircraft Association (BMAA) and is conducted by a CAA approved instructor. We only use the British training syllabus (open or download the syllabus PDF document). All flights are conducted to comply with the British regulations with the eventual aim of obtaining an NPPL. Even if you do not want to enter training, trial flights are flown to these criteria (Ex. 3 – The Air Experience Flight) in order to make the flight legal.

Currently, all the aircraft used are British registered, inspected, maintained, certified and operated to British standards, as are the instructors.

The current rules for obtaining a British NPPL are, firstly, to have a valid medical certificate. This can be downloaded from the CAA website to be signed-off by your GP. This is effectively your licence whilst under training but is not required for a trial flight. You should however be in reasonable health and with no known condition which would stop you from being allowed to drive a car. Once you have been “certified”, you are required to complete a minimum of 25 hours flight training of which 15 hours must be dual with an approved instructor, and 10 hours solo flying under the supervision of an approved instructor. Most students average about 35 hours in total before they are ready for their test. The exact number of hours will depend on the student’s ability, age, availability, etc.. There are also 5, multiple choice ground exams to do covering Air Law, Principles of Flight, Meteorology, Navigation and Human Performance and Limitations.
